Acclaimed Performance at the 39th International Festival of Symphonic Music in El Jem

For the past 28 years, the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra’s performance has been a fixture and annual highlight of the International Festival of Symphonic Music in El Jem. 

Under the musical direction of chief conductor Laszlo Gyüker, works by Johann Strauss I and II, Franz Lehár, Emmerich Kálmán and Carl Michael Ziehrer were performed on 1 August. Together with the orchestra, soprano Andreja Zidaric and tenor Maximilian Mayer from the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich delighted the audience with arias from The Circus Princess and The Land of Smiles, among others. Once again, the sounds of Viennese music created a unique and captivating atmosphere in the world’s third-largest Roman amphitheatre. Among the thousands of concertgoers were numerous international ambassadors as well as Tunisia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti. The concert was broadcast live on Tunisian television and, in keeping with tradition, concluded to great acclaim with The Blue Danube and the Radetzky March. The next concert in El Jem will take place on 31 July 2027, marking the festival’s 40th anniversary!
