Further concerts by the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, conducted by Andreas Spörri and titled “Viennese Summer Night Concert,” will take place on 19 and 21 June at the Concert Hall Solothurn.

The deputy chief conductor of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra, Andreas Spörri, together with the brilliant musicians, the solo cellist Christophe Pantillon, the vocal soloists Elisabeth Flechl and Iurie Ciobanu and the dancers of the "Roman Svabek Ballroom Dancers", created a glamorous work of art with verve and passion. Erwin Belakowitsch led the evening with a witty and humorous presentation.

The members of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra celebrated Viennese Music during this brilliant, colorful evening, and the organizer's goal of bringing the flair of the Vienna Opera Ball to Basel for the first time was fully achieved. The audience thanked the artists with standing ovations.

The following day, on January 14, 2024, the KKL Lucerne once again hosted a sold-out New Year's concert.

Under the musical direction of chief conductor Laszlo Gyüker, classical compositions from opera and operetta as well as works by Johann Strauss, Carl Michael Ziehrer and Josef Lanner were performed. The vocal soloists Martha Hirschmann and Ilona Revolskaya delighted the audience not only with their vocal qualities, but also in their interplay during the famous opera duets from Lakmé and Tales of Hoffmann. After a two-hour concert and three encores, the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra was bid farewell by the more than 5,000 visitors with standing ovations lasting several minutes. 

As last year, the concert was broadcast live by Tunisian state television and by three other TV stations.

The soprano Nicole Lubinger and the baritone Günter Haumer provided exquisite operetta feeling, the Heurigen quartet of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra for Austrian serenity. 

At the grand evening concert, the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra thrilled the audience with Austrian and French repertoire. With the rousing rhythms of the Cancans, the Danube Waltz and the Radetzky March, no one was left on the edge of their seats. A swinging bat quadrille under the direction of Manfred Zehender as well as numerous, vehemently demanded encores formed the crowning conclusion.

The New Year's Concert initiated by Andreas Spörri 20 years ago at the KKL Luzern became an acclaimed success for the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra on January 14, 2023 under the direction of Andreas Spörri.More than 1800 visitors enjoyed the musically balanced and attractively composed program of our deputy chief conductor. Sensitive in conducting and accompanying the powerful-voiced soloists Claudia Goebl and Michael Heim, Andreas Spörri impressed the Swiss audience at his "home game". As in previous years, the 54 musicians of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra with their concertmaster Anne Harvey Nagl, guaranteed the unique Viennese orchestral sound.                                                                                                              

The next concert of the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra at the KKL Luzern will already take place on June 4, 2023 under the title "Vienna Summer Gala".

This is not the first time that the Vienna Opera Ball Orchestra has been delighted to perform at the International Symphonic Music Festival El Jem and yet: each time is a unique experience. In 2022, the much acclaimed gala concert took place in front of 5000 listeners in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Amphitheater. In the presence of the Austrian ambassador Ulla Kraus-Nussbaumer and representatives of the Tunisian government, the most beautiful waltzes, polkas and marches from the era of Johann Strauss, Carl Michael Ziehrer, Josef Lanner and many others were performed. Soprano Nicole Lubinger and tenor Matjaz Stopinzek delighted not only the audience, but also the viewers who were present via Tunisian television.

Association International Symphonic Music Festival ELJEM

The event is the annual major event of the association International Symphonic Music Festival ELJEM e.V..The non-profit association has been active since 2011 and has the task of guaranteeing the Tunisian public, as well as the numerous tourists of the region, a cultural and artistic entertainment of the highest level, worthy of the place where the festival takes place: the Roman amphitheater, considered a World Heritage Site since 1979.

In addition to this prestigious festival, the association sells its mission in the form of master classes, exhibitions and many other projects that bring to the citizens and tourists the most diverse forms of cultural and artistic activity. The aim is to firmly anchor these fundamental values in the local development policy.
